The Wider Community

We want to use The Wider Community section of our website to describe and link with local organisations we either actively support or - at the very least - admire. Let us know how you would like us to expand this page.

Lewisham Plus Credit Union

Credit Unions operate as financial co-operatives and each member owns a part share in the organisation. This means that decisions are made collectively, in the best interest of all its members, rather than a small group of shareholders.

They offer a range of financial simple, functional products to help you save and manage your money, as well as providing access to borrowing which is carefully matched to meet your personal circumstances. When you deal with a credit union, you deal face-to-face, not to an anonymous voice from a call centre. They won't let you get in over your head and they won't charge extortionate interest rates.

Lewisham Plus Credit Union was founded in 1992 and now operates across the entire borough of Bromley (as Bromley Plus) as well a continuing to operate across the borough of Lewisham (as Lewisham Plus).

There are currently just under 8,000 adult members and over 1500 junior members, encourage the habit of saving in our young people.

Helping Hands Project, Volunteer Centre Lewisham

Helping Hands is a project run by Volunteer Centre Lewisham, which is trying to make a difference on the Lewisham Community.

They provide DIY and gardening services to those who need it the most in the borough, through the work of kind volunteers.

They are in desperate need of more volunteers who would like to give a few hours per week for a worthy cause. In particular they are looking for people with Gardening or DIY skills. Two to three hours a week are all that is needed and at the end of the first three months they are provided with a certificate and a reference as a sign of gratitude for their time and commitment to their community, which could also be of real help to the CVs of anyone seeking paid employment.

Can you do any of the following:

  • Lawn mowing
  • Weeding/pruning
  • General garden maintenance
  • Putting up shelves/blinds
  • Assembling flat-pack furniture
  • Painting
  • Fixing garden fences
  • Changing tap washers

Call Lauren or Maria on 020 86137113 or Contact them through this form.
