Church Open for Public Services

*Changes to Christmas Worship*

As some of you will be aware Rev'd Jim and members of his family have been isolating with Covid. Together with the increased risks at present this has meant some difficult decisions have had to be made, nd some activities canceled or curtailed.

CHRISTMAS EVE the CRIB SERVICE at 16:00 has sadly had to be cancelled

CHRISTMAS NIGHT 23:30 MIDNIGHT MASS will happen in some form or other. We will be keeping the church well ventilated and there will be space to sit socially distanced. Face coverings must be worn.

CHRISTMAS DAY 10:00 CHRISTMAS EUCHARIST will happen, though the promised 'chocolate Christmas Gospel' may have to wait for another year.

Above all, be safe and look after each other.

See link on the right to our services recorded during this time on our YouTube channel.

We usually have services every day (except Mondays) and two Eucharists on Sunday at 8am and 10am.

We seek to:

  • be an inclusive, family-friendly place for the community
  • be somewhere people can be in touch with the spiritual
  • offer worship to God
  • find new purpose in life

We offer:

  • a place of prayer where all can feel at home
  • a place of shelter where the lost can know themselves found
  • a place of pilgrimage where we learn and grow on our journey together
  • a place of support for and challenge to the community

During Covid restrictions, we introduced a new section of the website called

Keeping In Touch

to try and help us through this difficult time.

Here are prayer booklets, videos, updates and ways to pass the time. See the links on the right and please let us have your suggestions for what to include. This should be your space too. We continue to produce our parish Magazine, Sydenham Life, as an online publication. See right also.

We pray that you stay safe and healthy until this crisis is over.

St. Bartholomew's is a Grade 2* listed parish church in the Church of England, based in Sydenham, London. There are about 200 people in the congregation, from diverse backgrounds, and our worship combines all the main traditions of the Anglican Church.

We welcome all Christians and those enquiring into Christianity, and communicant members of other churches are invited to take Communion with us.

St. Bartholomew's has also established itself over the years as a formidable music venue and this is something we wish to expand upon in the future and as part of our major restoration plans.

Quite apart from during periods of restoration, it takes a lot of money to keep this beautiful building open so we always welcome donations.
